As with washing machines, tumble dryer manufacturing has become
heavily internationalised – many models sold under well-known
German brand names are now built in Eastern European factories.
It’s also worth noting that a single manufacturer’s washing
machine and tumble dryer don’t necessarily come from the same
factory.
In the UK, there is currently no domestic tumble dryer
manufacturer left – the last genuine UK production lines, at
Hotpoint’s Bristol-area factory and at Crosslee (White Knight),
have both closed in recent years, despite what some retailer
listings still claim.
On this page, we present three brands that document their
production location in a verifiable way – from
predominantly German manufacturing to production openly based in
Poland.

Good to know: With many manufacturers, a brand’s
washing machine and tumble dryer aren’t built at the same site –
even when sold under the same name. A washing machine labelled
“Made in Germany” doesn’t automatically mean the matching tumble
dryer comes from a German factory too. It’s worth checking the
origin of each appliance category separately.

Miele
🇩🇪 Mainly made in Germany

Miele builds its tumble dryers at its historic headquarters in
Gütersloh, North Rhine-Westphalia — the oldest and largest factory
in the Miele group, and its competence centre for laundry care in
both domestic and light-commercial settings. Part of production
also takes place at the Uničov plant in the Czech Republic. The
electric motors used in every Miele tumble dryer are developed and
built in-house at the company’s Euskirchen plant, with additional
electronic components supplied from its Romanian site in Brașov.
Miele launched Europe’s first automatic tumble dryer back in 1958
— a tradition continued by today’s heat-pump dryer generation.
Miele builds its tumble dryers in Gütersloh, supplemented by its
Czech plant in Uničov – motors come from its own Euskirchen
factory.

Bosch

🇵🇱 Made in Poland
Unlike Bosch washing machines, which are built in Germany, Bosch
tumble dryer production is concentrated in Poland. According to
BSH’s own official company wiki, a dedicated tumble dryer factory
opened in Łódź in 2005, followed in 2007 by a development centre
specifically for tumble dryers at the same site. An official BSH
press release from 2006 explicitly confirms the factory opening.
Design work continues to take place at BSH’s technology centre in
Berlin. Since 2020, BSH has manufactured carbon-neutrally across
all of its sites.

Siemens

Siemens tumble dryers are built – like the technically identical
Bosch models – by the shared parent company BSH Hausgeräte GmbH.
According to BSH’s official company wiki, a dedicated tumble dryer
factory opened in Łódź, Poland in 2005, with a development centre
specifically for tumble dryers added there in 2007 — this applies
to both brands equally, since they come from the same production
network. Unlike Siemens washing machines in the iQ700/iQ800 range,
which are built in Germany, tumble dryer production therefore sits
in Poland; design work continues to take place at BSH’s technology
centre in Berlin as well. Siemens sold its 50% stake in the former
Bosch-Siemens-Hausgeräte GmbH to Bosch back in 2015, while retaining
the right to use the Siemens brand for home appliances worldwide.
