Stressless
🇳🇴 Made in Norway
Stressless manufactures its sofas and recliners at four of its own factories in and around Sykkylven, Norway. The main plant in Ikornnes produces components and reclining chairs, while the Aure site is specifically responsible for the sofa models. The company carries an official, protected “Made in Norway” origin seal, introduced by the Norwegian government in 2022. Founded in 1934 and a pioneer of reclining chair technology since 1971, the brand is one of the best-known names in Scandinavian furniture and is widely stocked by mainstream furniture retailers across the UK.
Stressless manufactures at four of its own factories in Sykkylven/Aure, Norway — with an official “Made in Norway” seal, widely available across the UK.

G Plan
🇬🇧 Crafted in the UK
G Plan has manufactured from its own factory in Melksham, Wiltshire since 1953. The official “About Us” page on gplan.co.uk states plainly that the sofas are crafted in the UK — and, in a model example of transparent product-specific disclosure, adds a footnote for the one exception: “*The Active Comfort range is assembled in the UK using components sourced from selected overseas partners.” G Plan is part of the Sofa Brands International group, the same parent company as Duresta, though the two brands manufacture at separate factories. At a more accessible price point than either Duresta or Tetrad, G Plan is one of the more approachable options for buyers who still want traceable British manufacturing.

Duresta
🇬🇧 Handmade in England
Duresta has manufactured its sofas and chairs from Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire since 1938 — a town widely regarded as the historic centre of British upholstery manufacturing. The brand’s official website is explicit about the location and process: every hardwood frame is hand-assembled in-house, fabric is hand-cut, and many finishing details are hand-sewn. Every frame comes with a 25-year guarantee. Duresta is part of the Sofa Brands International group, alongside G Plan and Parker Knoll, though each brand manufactures at its own separate factory.

Tetrad
🇬🇧 Handmade in Britain
Tetrad has manufactured from Preston, Lancashire since its founding in 1968. The brand changed ownership in 2017, when it was acquired by the Belfield Group, and is now part of Sofas & Stuff — but production stayed at the original Preston site throughout, as confirmed on the brand’s official “Handmade in Britain” page. Tetrad is particularly known for its Harris Tweed collection, which combines fabric woven in Scotland with upholstery hand-finished at the Lancashire factory.
Tetrad has manufactured from Preston, Lancashire since 1968. Ownership changed in 2017 (now part of Sofas & Stuff), but production stayed at the same Preston factory.

Cassina
🇮🇹 Made in Italy
Cassina was founded in 1927 by brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina in Meda, Italy. The company’s official sustainability report names Meda as the founding and manufacturing site and describes Cassina as an “international symbol of Made in Italy excellence.” Since 1964, Cassina has also held the exclusive licensing rights to design classics by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand. In the UK, Cassina is distributed through select design boutiques; we did not identify a dedicated UK online store during this session.
Cassina has manufactured in Meda, Italy, since 1927 — confirmed as “Made in Italy” via its own sustainability report, distributed in the UK through select design boutiques.
