The market for surveillance and smart home cameras is dominated by a handful of large players – for most brands, it’s unclear where the devices are actually made.
On this page, we present two brands that openly communicate their production location – one with facility-level manufacturing in Germany, the other with a manufacturer-confirmed production location in China. We care about transparency, not about a particular country of origin.

MOBOTIX
🇩🇪 Made in Germany Langmeil manufactory
MOBOTIX, based in Langmeil, Germany, is one of the few surveillance camera manufacturers to make a facility-level statement about its production: the company states that its IoT cameras are hand- assembled at its own manufactory in Langmeil. Founded in 1999, MOBOTIX has specialised in a decentralised edge approach, in which image processing and analysis take place inside the camera itself rather than on a central recorder. Originally developed for high-security applications such as airports, prisons and stadiums, MOBOTIX has been majority-owned by Konica Minolta since 2016. In the UK, the brand is available through professional AV and security distributors rather than a dedicated consumer storefront.
MOBOTIX, based in Langmeil, hand-assembles its IoT cameras at its own manufactory according to the company’s own statement — one of the few facility-level Made-in-Germany claims in this category.

IMOU
🇨🇳 Made in China
IMOU, based in Hangzhou, was founded in 2015 as a consumer IoT brand, originally incubated by Dahua Technology. You won’t find a statement about production location on the brand’s own website — but IMOU’s official sales channels are clear about it: both the Amazon manufacturer listing and the eBay brand store, run directly by IMOU, list “China” as the country of origin. That’s a disclosure many competitors in this category simply don’t make. The product range spans surveillance cameras, video doorbells and robot vacuums, and is now available in more than 100 countries.
IMOU, based in Hangzhou, discloses “China” as its country of origin via its official Amazon and eBay manufacturer channels — a clearer statement than many competitors make.
